About Me

Hi and welcome to my blog.

Created in the iPhone in about 30 secs

This is my first foray to the world of blogging, which is quite ridiculous considering I have worked in the computing industry for nearly 20 years. I have some spare time on my hands, so I wanted to see if I could write successfully and if anyone was interested in what I had to write about.

Now About Me

I just turned 40. And while a lot of people say life begins at 40, I could say that I have lost some direction.

I have a young family, and have all the worries that come with that. As with all children, they are great fun, and then can wear out your patience in no time.

I have worked in the financial sector for over 10 years, but ultimately found it unfullfilling. Creating programs for other companies just lost it’s interest over the years. Being my own boss is where I want to be, but deciding where to put my efforts is the difficult choice to make.

I own some property which I rent out, which has given me some freedom to choose my direction in life, but there is constant balancing of the books required to sustain my lifestyle. Being a landlord is not the easiest of things to do.

So, what will I be writing about

Well, anything that comes to mind. I doubt there will be one particular theme running through the blog, but more whatever I have been spending a lot of time thinking about.

Things I am interested in –

Creativity – I have always been fascinated by the creative nature of people. From music, art to maths and science. How do people come up with new creative ideas?

Inspiring PeopleΒ – I hope to find some inspiration reading other blogs. As well as seeing their creativity, it might inspire me to move in another direction.

Travelling – I have done a lot of travelling in my past, seeing new places, people, listening to their music and especially eating their food are things I love to do.

Making Easy Money – Obviously people need it, but how much and how much effort to put into the pursuit of money? I will never be in the ranks of the billionaires, but a couple of million would do me!

So, this is the first effort. I hope you enjoy reading my blog. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Danny.

  1. You might want to install the comment ability on your home page/posts. I couldn’t find a way to comment on your recent photos. I will do it here, just so you know I enjoyed looking at them. Well done. I especially enjoyed the caterpiller. I hope he had a smile. πŸ™‚ The water photos are becoming a quick favorite of mine these days. Yours were stunning.

  2. It’s nice to meet you Danny. I also just turned 40 and on a whim, decided to have my mid-life crisis by delving into the blogging community (an uncharacteristic move for an introvert). I think you’ll quickly make connections and find your voice, which is a journey worth taking! Blessings. πŸ™‚

    • I, too, am an introvert and recently read a couple of books on being an introvert in an extrovert world. Turns out that blogging and social media are a great place for introverts. We’re not anti-people, but we like them one at a time, if possible. Blogging lets us meet our need for companionship and friendship, yet lets us dwell in our solitude, which is where we charge our internal batteries.

  3. Thanks so much for following my blog, Tide Line Still Life. I hope that you enjoy! I look forward to really digging into some of your tutorials, as I am currently thinking about the format of my blog, and what I could change. Enjoy your day (which is already half over… love how small the world becomes with blogs!). Best, Maggie

  4. Thanks for dropping by my blog & following.

I DO like your lessons/tutorials on your Internet site. I’m hopeless, so end up doing the same format & layout all the time. And, if I do get the layout right, next morning when I log in, I see my post has gone haywire and have to fix it, revert back to the old layout, or worse, just delete the whole post.

And ploughing through the WordPress forums or Help function is too overwhelming for my cognitive dysfunction since I’ve retired.

    • I have the same problem – the web is a fantastic tool, but sometimes finding the right info is a real pain.

I can waste hours looking for something that should be really simple!

Glad to be of help, and hope to put more tutorials on when I get some time.

      • It was my pleasure. Thank you, autumn is my favorite,so I may have went a bit overkill with the fall related posts and photos, but I can’t help myself, it’s such a lovely time of year! πŸ˜€ Yes, if you’ve still got some autumn colors going on there where you are, I say go for it, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Have a wonderful day Danny!

  5. Thank you for visiting my blog. Like others who’ve commented, I think you are off to a terrific launch. Have at it as I’m sure to swing by your blog during my WordPress sorties….all the best to you!

  6. Dear Danny, wow, what a courageous opening of your feelings. So flattered that you have recently chosen to follow Learning from Dogs. Always encouraging other bloggers to submit a guest post to LfD and goes for you, of course. Best of luck.

  7. Hey Danny!
I am honored that you are following my blog. I don’t know about you, but I sometimes feel like a castaway on a deserted island. It warms my heart to know that you will be visiting me.

    Have a great day!
    Rita

  8. Hi Danny,
Thanks for the blog follow. IT and Financial Services seem to have swallowed a whole generation of minds. It’s nice to come across another escapee learning to think for oneself again.

    • I was lucky to fall into these industries and gain some level of freedom. It gave me time to re-focus my attention on more important things in life – like writing this blog!

Thanks for the follow and for dropping by…

      • Good!! You’re about page’s comments would be a mile long.
I really like your poem. I too, hadn’t posted a poem for anyone to read in years. Lately, I haven’t been able to stop them. It seems the creativity of other bloggers has pushed me to try. It’s fun. Today happens to be a poetry posting day for me as well. (I sudder, but will publish.) πŸ™‚

  9. Turned 40 in July, and not sure how I feel about it. It’s not as bad as some made out to be, and not as good as I would like to believe on certain days πŸ™‚
    Thanks for following my blog!

  11. Thanks for the follow, and a nice blog you have! With just one visit I’ve already found a couple of nice tips, and I look forward to seeing more! Have a great 2014 ahead!

  12. Hi Danny. Interesting-looking blog. Thanks for following my haiku blog. You may, however, want to read the most recent post which explains that I am now using harcourt51.co.uk instead. If you are interested in diversity, that’s the place to go. πŸ™‚

      • Hi Danny. Thanks for the follow. My business blog is new so I am still experimenting. So far I have simply reblogged everything. I am looking for an easier way!

      • The one I use is Push Syndication from Automattic. It works on the whole, but there are a couple of things that could be improved. Give it a go, and let me know how you get on.

      • Hello Danny,

Thanks for the advice. I have set up Push Syndication and it posts to the Reader in WordPress.com. So thank you for the help on this. I am very pleased to get my message that far.

One last question, if I may. Did you say that I could post to a WordPress.com blog automatically? Or would I have to do something else?

Thanks for the help. What I have so far will make a huge difference.

        Michael

      • I use Push Syndication to post from dannyboybroderick.co.uk (self-hosted) to dannyboybroderick.wordpress.com. It saves me having to write on two blogs.

Again, it’s not perfect, but if it saves time, then I’ll use it.

  13. Hi Danny, Thank you for stopping by and following my blog. I am right there with ya, just turned 50, needed a change, delving into photography, started a blog to rekindle my creative spirit.

    • I think these milestones are a good time to rethink your direction. Great to get back into photography. BTW, what camera do you use to take your dance shots? I always find it hard to get a sharp image in bad light conditions, but your look pretty good.

  14. Danny, I had fun with your math problem 10=? even though I got in late on the action. Thank you for the visit and I hope you will visit again soon! πŸ™‚
